The Shoebill Smuggler

The Concept

The Shoebill Smuggler was inspired by the Shoebill Stork. I loved how unique these birds look and how prehistoric they feel. I then looked at the Star Wars universe to try and create a blend of what this individual would look like in this world.

The Breakdown

I sculpted my character in Zbrush and did the feathers using Fibermesh. I used a combination of basic feathers with a texture for the majority of the body, and then created much more dense feathers using fibermesh and grooming brushes for the more detailed tail feathers. For the coloring, I used vertex painting in Zbrush, and finally, I decimated to a lower poly count and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
